Have You Ever Considered Using Solid Ink?
Did you know that there are more than 1 million Solid Ink machines in use today?
They are serving thousands of customers who produce more than 6 billion pages each year.
Every year, Xerox works to lower running costs while improving performance and quality. Although Solid Ink technology was originally developed for the graphic arts market, it quickly appealed to general office users because of its simplicity and ease of use for everyone.
Xerox, acquired Tekktronix the company that created the solid ink machine back in the early 1990s, just keeps on innovating.
The Tektronix Phaser III, launched in 1991 was something that really wowed the graphic arts industry – super high quality printing, with a page being able to print per minute. It was very successful and was followed up with an A3 version.
In 2000, Xerox bought them, and as usual, kept on innovating and released a product every two years. The machines are now much more widely used, and there are over one million machines in use today, with over 6 billion pages being printed.
You would think that Xerox would be happy with having a great position in that market place, but after reviewing the product and benefits more, they found Solid Ink was highly sustainable – it uses no cartridges, no plastic parts, no high tech heads, and best of all, much less packaging that would find its way to landfill. In fact, Solid Ink is 90% less wasteful than traditional ink or laserjets, and Xerox have made some calculations and based upon those, if you replaced one million laser machines with one million solid ink machines, you would:
– save enough electricity to power all homes in San Francisco for one whole year
– save the output of an equivalent of 45000 cars no longer being on the road
– stop a pile of packaging and cartridges that would span the world once over from being produced
These figures are remarkable, and when you look at the waterless ink technologies, it is clear that Xerox are working hard to bring down the overall cost of ownership and print delivery for businesses all over the world.
